There have been a lot of impressive tennis players over the years, with the women's game giving is some very talented stars indeed. With that said, there is one woman who is up there with the best the game has ever given us, and we are fortunate enough to still get to see her play.

Serena Williams is a great player
Serena Williams is the number one player in the world and arguably the greatest female tennis player to ever pick up a racket. Serena goes into the US Open, looking to win her first calendar Grand Slam, which is something that she has dreamed of ever since she first got into playing the sport.
While talking about the possibility of winning the calendar slam, Williams explained, "I think Wimbledon gave me unbelievable practice for this. At Wimbledon I was going for the second Serena Slam. That is rare. So that really gave me the best practice and preparation in terms of going for the Grand Slam."

Is Serena Williams the best ever?
She then went on to add, "I always dreamt of winning the US Open. I have always dreamt of winning the Grand Slam. It was just a dream. I never thought I would be close to doing something like that. My dream originally was always to win here in New York."
If Serena Williams does go on to win the US Open, she will become the first woman to win the calendar Grand Slam since Steffi Graf back in 1988. Meanwhile, Serena will also become only the fourth woman to win the calendar Grand Slam, with Margaret Court in 1970 and Maureen Connolly in 1953.
