Networks have started announcing their pickups and renewals, and the CW has made a surprising decision to renew The Carrie Diaries and Nikita for another season.

Maggie Q headlines 'Nikita'
Although Nikita was always 'on the bubble', The Carrie Diaries was considered a sure cancellation. However, the Maggie Q starring 'Nikita' and AnnaSophia Robb starring 'The Carrie Diaires' will get another season to prove that they have staying power.
Nikita will be continuing on to its fourth season, and experts think that the one of the main reasons it continues getting renewed despite having low ratings is its vocal and dedicated fan base. Much like the fans of One Tree Hill managed to keep it on the air for nine years despite steadily dropping ratings, Nikita's fans have made sure it stays on the air despite averaging only 1.1 million viewers last season.

AnnaSophia Robb in 'The Carrie Diaries'
The Carrie Diaries, on the other hand, is just on its first season and definitely didn't make the impact that the network had been hoping for. Despite an expensive advertising campaign, and based on the existing IP of Sex and the City, it only averaged about 1.1 million viewers, which is considered especially low for a new show. However, due to the CW's new deal with Hulu, the network is taking a few risks with some of its show, hoping that they find an audience in streaming and online syndication.
