It was announced earlier this week that Stuart Pearce had been placed in charge of selecting and managing the GB Olympic Football squad. Now it has been suggested that he could be set to pick England International striker Wayne Rooney.
There is a lot of doubt over whether or not Wayne will be selected for the Euro 2012 Championships following his three match ban. So if Fabio Capello does decide to leave Rooney out of his England squad, Stuart Pearce will be ready to offer him a summer life line.
There has been a lot of discussion surrounding the GB Olympic Football team with Scotland, Wales and Ireland declaring their disapproval in the idea. However, Gareth Bale and Aaron Ramsey, who are both Welsh, have revealed their determination to be picked.
It has also been claimed that former England captain David Beckham could also get a call up to the GB Olympic Football squad. However, Stuart Pearce has stated that players will be picked based on form and not on reputation. The GB Olympic Football squad selection will be confirmed on July 9, 2012.
