When a television show decides to move away from its source material, you will often find that there are a lot of fans who are not too very happy with the changes but this is not always the case, as the hit US television series Elementary has shown. Elementary is based on the characters from Sherlock Holmes and, rather than casting an actor in the role of John Watson, they instead decided to cast an actress and change the character to Joan Watson.

Lucy Liu stars in Elementary
This has actually gone down quite well with fans and actress Lucy Liu has given us some impressive performances in the role of Joan Watson, alongside actor Jonny Lee Miller in the role of Sherlock Holmes. While the two characters have had their ups and downs during the series, there have been suggestions that we could see Holmes and Watson getting together in the future but will it ever actually happen?
Lucy Liu was recently talking about the relationship between the two characters, when she explained, "We’ve gone off the literature in a lot of ways, but the fact that we’re sticking to the relationship between the two is incredibly important. That dynamic will sort of be the undercurrent for whatever case they’re working on."

Will the two stars ever hook up?
She added, "There are many interesting cases, and the way they are solved is even more interesting. But what really keeps you coming back for more is their friendship, the depth of it, and how it continues to grow. I think it’s more dramatic in some ways to see the tension between two people that never get together."
Elementary season three is currently on its mid-season break and will return to CBS on Thursday, January 8 at 10/9c.
